Overview

Tamassa is at Bel Ombre, 45 minutes from the airport, and stands at the end of a long avenue of mature coconut palms towering skywards. From the entrance to the hotel grounds, there is a panoramic view of sugarcane fields stretching to the mountains that give a picture postcard backdrop. In front of the hotel, beyond the long sandy beach, lies a turquoise lagoon that almost blends into the skyline. The sea air is invigorating and the ripples of the waves gently calming. The friendliness, the variety and the cheerful surroundings breathe with the enthusiasm and energy of eternal youth. Located on the south-west coast at Bel Ombre, the resort promises guests a contemporary and informal holiday experience. Tamassa is a new (2009) tropical haven complemented by a warm service attitude and cosy atmosphere. Its traditional Mauritian architecture married with contemporary décor uses plenty of natural colour. A generous number of sports and leisure activities include a spa, nightclub, PADI dive centre and Kids Club to entertain all ages, whilst golf can be arranged locally. Facilities Common to all Rooms

The Standard Room is strikingly attractive, with pure, simple lines contrasting with bright green touches on the bedspreads, and an inspired image of a bird of paradise on the wall above the headboard. The Egyptian cotton and the bed cover have been specially designed for the hotel. Warm, sunny colours envelope the Superior Rooms; the décor is attractively uncluttered, with clean, contemporary lines offset here by touches of red orange. In the Deluxe Rooms, the orchid feature again predominates above the headboard of the super-king size bed but this time shades of fuchsia are featured throughout to dramatic effect. Family Rooms are also available.

Standard Room

The décor is strikingly attractive, with pure, simple lines contrasting with bright green touches on the bedspreads, and an inspired image of a bird of paradise on the wall above the headboard. With the terrace door wide open, the colours in the room seem to blend with the trees and plants outside. Each Standard Room, measuring 43 sq m., has either a queen-size bed or twin beds. The bed cover, specially designed for the hotel, gives an immediate feeling of intimacy. A sliding, wooden door opens up to reveal a spacious bathroom, bathed in natural light. As well as a corner bath, there is a separate shower cubicle edged in sintered-glass tiling, 2 washbowls on stands and wardrobe space. The toilet is behind a separate door. The use of solid wood for all the doors and many of the fittings, gives a warm, rich feel to both rooms.

Family Standard

Larger Family Standard Room, measuring 59 square metres, is identical to the Standard Room as described above but it designed to accommodate two adults and two children.

Superior Room

Warm, sunny colours envelop the room. The décor is attractively uncluttered, with clean, contemporary lines offset here by touches of red orange. An image of a huge orchid stands above the wooden headboard and the touches of orange in the curtains and the uniquely designed bedcover are intoxicating. The bathroom has a bath, two glass washbasins, a separate shower edged with decorated sintered-glass tiling, and a wardrobe. The toilet is behind a separate door. The overall effect is invigorating, the kind of room that makes guests want to linger for a few weeks more. Superior Rooms measure 46 square metres.

Deluxe Room

The orchid feature again predominates above the headboard of the queen-size bed, but this time shades of fuchsia are featured throughout to dramatic effect. Kiatt, a wood from North Africa, is used throughout all the rooms. The clean, contemporary lines of the basic décor, offset here by the warmth of natural wood and the touches of fuchsia colour, have a simply stunning impact. The bathroom has a bright, luxurious feel to it, with two white porcelain hand basins set on a taup golden marble stand and sintered-glass Bizassa tiling from Italy in the shower. The spacious bath, set in its own alcove, has marble surrounds. Deluxe Rooms measure 56 square metres.

The Beach Bar & Restaurant is a place to relax with your feet in the sand, watching the sea, having a hearty salad lunch or enjoying the Latin cuisine. The dinner menu varies from themed evenings to buffets, to à la carte.

Lounge Bar

The main bar is split-level, with a unique decor combining contemporary and traditional touches. The wooded bar counter is at table-height and the bar itself is surrounded by large, comfortable armchairs. White and turquoise predominate in the colour scheme, offset by wood, steel and glass fittings, to create a feeling of warm, contemporary elegance. From the ceiling, globes of light add to the subtle atmosphere and reflect in the ivory-coloured flooring, studded with bluish decorative tiling. The Lounge Bar offers a selection of cocktails, rums, beers and spirits of international brands.

Show Restaurant

The restaurant's terrace overlooks the swimming pool and has an uninterrupted view of the lagoon. Beams of light from gobos illuminate the pure, contemporary lines of the interior, where shades of orange merge into rounded lines and cubic shapes. The main restaurant is divided into three and based on the concept of three open kitchens, offering a range of international cuisine, with buffet breakfasts and lunches and à la carte or buffet dining.
