Overview

Galley Bay, an intimate, Caribbean hideaway, delights guests with its refined, unpretentious atmosphere and its relaxing, all-inclusive arrangement. Its shimmering turquoise seascapes and lush gardens create a relaxing, natural setting for those who want to escape the hectic pace of daily city life. The focal point is the three-quarter-mile white sand beach on the clear, warm Caribbean, where you can recline in the shade of a palm tree, soak up the sun or enjoy a refreshing swim and complimentary non-motorised water sports. The resort's commitment to peace and tranquillity means that children under 16 years of age are only accepted during two weeks of the year. With three romantic open-air restaurants and three welcoming lounges, you'll ever need to leave the property to enjoy three delicious meals each day, along with afternoon tea, evening hors d'oeuvres, by-the-glass wines and top-shelf beverages. Live entertainment, cocktail parties and Caribbean barbecues punctuate evenings at Galley Bay. By day, you can take advantage of a full array of complimentary water sports equipment and instruction, lounge by the swimming pool or beach, or get active on the jogging trails or tennis courts.

Gauguin Cottages are situated close to the bird sanctuary lagoon about 50 yards from the beach. Each one consists of two separate thatched rondavels connected by a sheltered breezeway - one is an air-conditioned bedroom and the other is a dressing room/bathroom with ceiling fan and shower. The splash pool measure a minimum of 7ft by 9ft and feature adjacent sundeck concealed by either the tropical vegetation or screens made from natural Spanish heather.

Teepee Bar
Why not begin your evening with a sundowner in the informal oceanfront Teepee Bar? There's nothing quite like sipping a rum punch and watching the sun slowly sink behind the Caribbean Sea.

Lounge Bar
Or you may prefer cocktails and hors d'oeuvres in the elegant Lounge Bar, the friendly staff and lively rhythms guarantee a memorable occasion.

Gauguin Bar
For the utmost in romance, the Gauguin Bar welcomes guests before and after lunch and dinner in a lovely setting with a very private atmosphere.

Indulge Spa
For the utmost in relaxation and pampering, you are invited to explore Indulge, the beautiful new spa, which made its debut in January 2008. Indulge is inspired by the distinctive look of the Gauguin cottages, and is centrally located, adjacent to the calming waters of the lagoon and surrounding bird sanctuary. The spacious, multi-level hideaway features three massage areas, two of which are rustic, open-air treatment 'pods'. The pods are rough-hewn, airy massage decks draped with sheer, white curtains for privacy, and both overlook the bird sanctuary and lagoon. The second, shaded treatment pod is designed to accommodate two massage tables, for romantic his-and-hers treatments, in keeping with Galley Bay's emphasis on couples.

Fitness Centre
There's no reason to take a vacation from your exercise regiment while you're at Galley Bay. Free weights and cardio equipment let you keep up your routine - or start a new one - in the comfort of the air-conditioned Fitness Centre. You can also maintain your aerobic conditioning with a run on the jogging track or along the three-quarter-mile beachfront.
Sea Grape Restaurant
Begin the evening with cocktails in the beachside Lounge Bar and let the soft rhythm of a steel pan band set the mood for a remarkable evening. From there, move into the spacious elegance of the Sea Grape Restaurant where you will be treated to exotic flavours of the Caribbean with award-winning, sumptuous dishes created by the Master Chef.

The Gauguin Restaurant
The Gauguin Restaurant offers a smaller, more intimate venue. Here, you'll dine in a cabana for two by flickering candlelight among the palm trees, literally steps from the sea, with only a thatched roof between you and the evening sky. The varied menu, which changes daily, blends the cuisines of the West Indies, the Pacific Rim and Europe. Enjoy a variety of wines by the glass with your dinner, perhaps starting with the curry-scented spinach soup with roasted corn or peppered yellow fin tuna, followed by pan-fried fillet of butterfish with sweet chili sauce and stir-fried vegetables. Top off your meal with fresh-brewed coffee and a sweet surprise, like the delightfully decadent creme brulee.

'Ismay' Restaurant & Bar
Try the newest beachfront restaurant Ismay's Restaurant & Bar, a stunning timber building situated at the southern end of the three-quarter-mile white sand beach adjacent to the beautiful shell bay. The menu offers guests the best of the island's local flavours with everything from classic West Indian 'roti' to seafood gumbo and the classic Rastafarian dish 'ital'. Open for dinner seven days a week. For a $35 surcharge (approximately), you can celebrate that special occasion or romantic evening looking out at the Caribbean Sea.
